Rev. Dr. Eddie Benjamin Washington, 70, transitioned to be with our Heavenly Father on April 14, 2020, at Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton, GA. He was born November 04, 1949, in Leesburg, GA, a son of the late David Washington and Lucy Cleve Harris Whitsett. He was proceeded in death by one brother, Dan Washington: and three sisters, Barbara Jean Glass, Carolyn Washington, and Alice Ruth Collier. He was a member of Wooden Grove Baptist Church in Leesburg, GA: served as Sunday School teacher, Bible Study teacher, and President of the Choir. He felt called to the gospel ministry while teaching Sunday School at Wooden Grove Baptist Church.
Dr. Washington was a l968 graduate of Lee County Training; a 1972 graduate of Albany Technical College in Brick Masonry; and earned a Doctor of Ministry from Bethany Divinity College and Seminary in Dothan, AL. He served in the Army National Guard from 1976-1982. Prior to retiring from Delco Remy (General Motors) in 2012, he was employed by Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, J C Henderson Company, Aero Command Center, and Turner Job Corps Center.
Dr. Washington served as Vice-Moderator of Trinity Missionary Baptist Congress of Christian Education and Hopewell Baptist Christian Education. Served as pastor of Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church (Leesburg, GA) for 10 years; and served as pastor of New Prospect Missionary Baptist Church (Arlington, GA) for 8 years. He was deeply loved by those he served and was known as a caring and compassionate minister who preached the Gospel Message from his heart.
He leaves to cherish a lifetime of love and memories, his wife of 27 years, Dr. Lodessa Washington; his children, Irvin Washington (Alisha) of Stockbridge, GA, April Washington of Leesburg, GA, Ronalda Parence of Albany, GA, Loette Parence of Atlanta, GA, David Washington of Conyers, GA, and Vanasha Fair of Carrollton, GA: his siblings, David Washington, Sr. of Atlanta, GA, Sandra Gibson of Leesburg, GA, and Betty Coleman of Detroit, MI; his sisters-in-law, Johnnie Mae Washington and Earlene Swain; 14 grandchildren and a host of loving nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
