Mrs. Willie Mae Tookes, daughter of Willie Clark and the late Dollie B. Clark, was born in Mitchell County, Ga. She received her education from the public schools of Albany, Ga., where she later received her high school diploma from Monroe Comprehensive High School in 1976. Upon completing high school, Mrs. Tookes continued her education at Albany State University, majoring in nursing. After four years of college, she then enlisted in the U.S. Army. in 1980. After serving two years, Mrs. Tookes returned home to Albany with a bouncing baby boy. Mrs. Tookescontinued her educational career at Ridley Training Institute and received a diploma in computer and clerical in 1989. On July 23, 1993, she and her high school sweet heart, Alonzo G. Tookes, joined in holy matrimony.
Mrs. Tookes held several careers in her journey. She is most notable for her work with Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. There, she was apart of the cafeteria staff and later moved her position to become a secretary. She continued her work with Phoebe Putney for twenty years until her retirement in 2014 where she became a full-time caregiver to her great-nephew until his health failed him. Mrs. Tookes returned to the workforce and began working with security at Keystone Foods (Cagel). After just two years, she returned to Phoebe and most recently worked at WynfieldPark Health and Rehabilitation Center until her health failed her.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Dollie B. Clark, three sisters, two brothers, husband,one great-nephew, and mother & father-in-law.
She leaves behind her father, Mr. Willie Clark, her son Danny, three brothers Essick, James, and David, two sisters Dorothy and Annie, all of Albany, Ga., two sisters-in-law, Cassandra Winchester and Andrea Jackson, four brothers-in-law, Curtis Winchester, Christopher Jackson, Gregory Tookes, and Samuel Green, two grandchildren, Madison Jones and LaMardrick Freeman,her best friends Renita Harvey, Tina Walker, and Tina Wakefield, and a host of nieces, nephews,family, and friends.
