Mrs. Ledecia Payne

January 28, 1925 — July 24, 2021

Ledecia Spivey Payne, the daughter of Morgan and Sedessie Quinn Spivey was born on January 28, 1925 in Dooling, Georgia. The final call came on Saturday July 24, 2021; peacefully at home in Albany, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Fred L Spivey.

Ledecia received her early education through high school in the Dooly County Public School system. She attended and graduated from Ft Valley State College in 1947, where she received her Bachelor’s degree and continued to work toward her Masters in Elementary Education. She was a member of Delta Sigma Theta sorority (ETA Chapter, 1948)

Ledecia met and married John Payne, in Chicago, Illinois. She longed for home and returned to Georgia to launch her career in education.

She taught school until her retirement after nearly 30 years of service working in the Dooly, Macon, Lamar, and Randolph counties school system.

She became affiliated with the church at a very young age. Serving faithfully in whatever capacity, always willing to do her part and more, until her health declined. A life of service was her desire as is evident in her long teaching career and church affiliations and activities.
