Essie Mae Martin Crawford-Davis was born to the late Isaac Martin, Sr. and Bessie Joyce Martin.
She was educated in the Decatur County Public School System and obtained a B.S. Degree in Early Childhood Education from Fort Valley State University. She furthered her education with postgraduate work at Florida A&M University. Essie went on to teach in the Decatur County School System for thirty-seven years where she touched the lives of hundreds of students.
Essie accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of the Lily Hill Missionary Baptist Church for all her adult life and is the Mother of the church, where she proudly held the position.
Essie was united in marriage to the late Clifford Crawford and into this loving union one daughter was born. Later in life, Essie was united in marriage to the late O.L. Davis.
Essie loved her family and friends, and the feelings were mutual. Her interactions and encounters with her family and friends led to many fond memories that will forever be cherished.
Essie peacefully departed this earthly realm on Saturday, June 24, 2023, in the loving home of her only daughter.
Essie was preceded in death by her parents, Isaac Martin, Sr. and Bessie Joyce Martin; and seven siblings, Choice Martin, Sr., Inell Harris, Minnie Hammond, Isaac Martin, Jr., Moses E. Martin, Joseph Martin, Sr., and Isaac Samuel Martin.
Essie leaves to cherish her memories one sister, Sarah B. Mitchell; one daughter, Lillian C. Miller (Pete); one grandson, Joseph C. Miller (Jontane); two great-grandsons, Jared A. Miller and Jacob A. Miller; a special great grandson, Joshua A. Gibson; special nieces, (Beth Martin Duncan Lloyd), Verdine Spicer Reece (Donoavon), and Dorothy Jean Joyce Baker; special nephews, Gary Martin (Vanessa), Richard Martin, Choice Martin, Jr. (Vickie), Kenneth Martin (Debbie); a special cousin, Audrey Green; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, friends, students, and loved ones.
