Dorothy Louise Jeffries was born Jun 24, 1940, in Alamance County, North Carolina, the eldest of five daughters born to Ruth Jeffries.
Dorothy attended St. Francis Xavier Elementary School in Baltimore, MD and graduated from St. Frances Academy High School in Baltimore, MS. She went on to attend and graduate with a bachelor’s degree from Morgan State College. Following graduation, Dorothy taught French in the De La Warr High School in Delaware.
It was while she lived in Delaware that she met the handsome young soldier, Jasper Crawford, who would become her husband. As a married couple, they traveled extensively at home and abroad as part of Jasper’s Army assignments. After returning to the United States, Jasper and Dorothy adopted three children, Sarah, RosieLee and John.
Dorothy worked in Case Management for the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). She also achieved a long-held desire of her heart, to become a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc and she eventually attained Delta D.E.A.R.S. status.
She was a long-time member of the Zion Grove Missionary Baptist Church.
Dorothy is proceeded in death by grandson Andrew Crawford.
Dorothy passed from this life on April 17, 2024, to begin her New Life with Jesus Christ. She has left behind the following people to cherish her memory, her beloved and devoted husband Reverand Jasper Crawford, Sr. Four children Jasper Crawford, Jr., Sarah Russell, Rosie Lee Crawford, John Crawford. Several grandchildren, among whom are Courtney Crawford, Isaiah Crawford, and Isaac Crawford. Three sisters Rose Williams, Elsie Jeffries, and Betty Jeffries. One brother-in-law Benjamin Crawford. One sister-in-law Linda Crawford. She also leaves several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
