The life of Robert Lee Newton, Jr., was filled with the spirit of his willingness to serve. He was one of the representatives who served Albany State College, now known as Albany State University, with pride.
Robert was born on February 13, 1969, to the parents of Mr. Robert Lee Newton Sr., and Mrs. Frances Allen Newton who proceeded him in death. Robert was educated in the sunshine State of Florida in Delay Beach. His education began in the Palm Beach County School System at the Kiddie Kampus, and continued at Forest Park Elementary School, His Junior High years at Trinity Lutheran School provided him with the opportunity to play Peter in the production of "Witness He graduated from Atlantic High School, home of the Eagles in 1987.
Throughout his High School years in Florida, Robert participated in many organizations such as the Pep Club, The Atlantic Band for the Marching War Eagles and many more. Before attending the unsinkable Albany State College, Robert graduated from Palm Beach College and from the Connecticut School of Broadcasting in West Palm Beach, Florida. He became an announcer at the WJNO Radio Station and made a radio commercial for the Burger King Jingle.
Robert graduated from the Unsinkable Albany State College here in Albany, Georgia with a major in Speech and Theatre and one of his highlights at Albany State was becoming the dynamic "Voice" for the fabulous Golden Rams Marching Band.
As a student at Albany State College, Robert was known as "The Voice" singing with the Gospel Choir as well as President of the Choir. He performed in plays, presented by the Theatre Ensemble, and participated with all the Student Affairs. He acquired his articulation ability from his mom but built upon it while majoring in Speech and Theatre at Albany State. He was also the Mascot as an employee at Albany State, Robert was the founder for the Holley Ambassadors in 1997, sang with his melodious voice in the Gospel Choir, the MC Pageants and judged many functions. He was the Senior Recruiter-Advisor, recruiting the larges international students on Honor Roll for Albany State. His tenure at ASU took him to several places throughout the world and this country.
Robert was one of the most productive and outstanding Recruiters who had the tenacity to get the students interested enough to become a part of the Albany State's Family and the Alumni Association upon their graduation. Robert was a member of Saint Paul Baptist Church in Delay Beach, Florida where he directed the Youth Choir and worked with the Youth Department as well as many other duties in the church. It must be noted that Robert left his mark on all those he touched including the parishioners at Mt. Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. Daniel Simmons.
He was very active in his service for God, his Pastor, and the church. He worked diligently with Vacation Bible School, one of the first members of the Greeters Ministry and The Scholarship Committee. He sang with the Gospel Choir of Mt. Zion that was later "The Voices of Zion." Robert directed the Youth Choir of Mt. Zion, the President of the Singles' Ministry and was one of the van drivers for Transportation Ministry.
Robert, as was called by his family at Family Reunions, was the "The Melody Man". He will be remembered dearly because of the closeness with all family members.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his father Robert Lee Newton Sr., one sister, Jennifer LeVerne Newton, niece, Saberia Francis, nephews, Michael Edward Francis Jr., Desmond Francis, Sr. Juliana Francis), Donnell Francis, and Daunte Francis, great nieces, Desiray Francis and Janiyah Brown, great nephews, Desmond Francis Jr., Darian Francis, Donovan Francis, and Jason Brown Jr., special aunt, Louise Bassa, aunts, Rosayln Allen and Constance Dent, God Mothers. Geraldine Monroe and Luella Willingham, special cousins, Carol Jackson, Minister James Bassa Jr., Calvin Brown. Jane Bassa, Ebony Carnegie, Tasha Mobley, Katina Allen, Jeffery Milay, Dr. Howard Barr, Shawn Thompson, Willie Dent, Michael Dent, Lillian Dent, KC Allen Sr., Cherlyn Dent, David Dent, Eric Dent, Dana Farmer, Terry Farmer, and Novolia Wright. and a host of cousins, family and friends.
