Mr. James Mathis, the son of the late Eugene Mathis and the late Liller Mathis was born in Albany, Ga. on June 30, 1949. He was the eldest of eleven siblings.
James attended Monroe Comprehensive High School and was a member of the graduating class of 1967. He attended some college and ultimately gained employment with Proctor & Gamble as an Electrical Engineer. His tenure included over 30 years of committed service until he retired. There he received extensive training and received specialized certifications that led to his success until retirement. Some of his colleagues knew him to be very humble and a dependable friend. James also enjoyed fishing, sports and bowling as a pastime. He received several awards, trophies and accolades for mastering the craft of bowling.
Being reared in a Christian home, faith was the foundation for his life. He was baptized at Old Piney Grove Baptist Church and accepted Christ at an early age. He served faithfully as a member singing in the choir, in the office as deacon and assistant chairman and had just recently accepted the role of Chairman of Old Piney Grove Baptist Church.
On June 27, 1979, James married the late Patricia Ann Mathis. From this union, they had two children, Justin Mathis and Kristina Mathis.
After a lengthy illness and fighting a good fight, James entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, February 8, 2023. He was a true solider in the army of the Lord. He will be dearly missed from family, friends and church members.
James leaves to cherish his memories, three sons, Robert Green Jr., James Williford, and Justin Mathis (Eureka), two daughters, Trenise Williford and Kristina Mathis, all of Albany, Ga. He also leaves thirteen grandkids, Dorzell, Deryka, Adriana, Shabazz, Keon, Kierra, Demetrius, Mynasia, Justyce, Jayda, James, Chaney and Karrington.
James is preceded in death by his father, Eugene Mathis and his mother Liller Mathis, his wife, Patricia Mathis, Sisters, Berlinda Mathis and Vickie Mathis, brothers, Raymond Mathis and Gregory Mathis, nephew, Darren Davenport. He leaves to cherish his memories to his surviving siblings, three sisters, Charlotte Roberts (Otis) of Thomasville, Georgia, Beverly Akano of Atlanta, Georgia, and Pearlene Davenport, of Albany, Georgia; three brothers, Ricky Mathis (Janice) of Rockfort, Illinois, Timothy Mathis (Vanessa) of Atlanta, Georgia, and Wayne Mathis of Albany, Georgia, sister in laws, Mary Burns (Willie), Deloris Corbett, and Dorothy Pierce (Joe), all of Bainbridge Georgia, Brother in laws Osborne Pierce (Lillie Mae), and a host of nephews, nieces, great grandkids, extended family members and friends.
