John L. “Bollie” James was born July 9, 1938, in Mitchell County to the late Samuel James Sr and Hilda Mae Borgman James. He was the fourth child of eleven born to this union. On March 09, 2023, he passed away peacefully at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.
At an early age, he confessed his life to Christ and joined the New Salem Missionary Baptist Church in Baconton, Georgia. Upon returning to Putney, Georgia in 1997, he and his beautiful wife joined Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church in Putney, Georgia, where he served faithfully until his passing.
He was educated in the Dougherty Country School System. He graduated from Monroe High School. After high school he joined the United States Army in 1956, in which he served 2 years. After his tour of duty, he married his longtime sweetheart Lena M. Williams. After marrying his sweetheart, they resided in New Jersey. While in New Jersey, he graduated from Monmouth Bible Institute in Farmingdale, New Jersey. He became a Master Welder where he worked diligently for over 20 years. He retired in 1985 and returned home to Putney, Georgia in 1997. During retirement, he worked for Phillips Drug Store delivering medication and evangelizing to lost souls.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, his four brothers (Samuel Jr., Willie, Larry and Gary), and three sisters (Murray James, Mary Grace Fedrick and Elaine Hooks), two daughters (Angela James and Tangy Wright), one godson, (Maurice Williams).
He is survived by his loving wife, Lena M. James, and one daughter, Carla James-Hall, six grandchildren, Sean Smith, Derron (Aisha) James, Jessica Wright, Shannon (Maria) James Sr., Nacory Wright, Mia Hall, thirteen great grandchildren and two great- great grandchildren, one goddaughter Crystal (Harry) Young, three brothers, Jessie (Carol) James of Albany, Georgia, Patrick (Iris) James of Lauderhill, Florida, Kenneth (Donna ) James, of Charlotte, North Carolina, five sisters in laws, Mary L. Brown, Margaret R. Burrell, Loreen Jackson, Erma Jean Williams, Elleanor A. Williams all of Albany, Georgia. A true host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
