Derek Bernard Jones was born on September 5, 1970, in Leary, Georgia to Jamie Strawter Love. Derek was the sixth out of eight children. During his illness, his sister, Dr. Katrena Robinson led him to Christ. Derek repented of his sins, asked God for forgiveness, and stated his belief in the life, death, and saving resurrection of Jesus Christ. He had a strong faith in God and believed that his life was in God’s hands.
Derek was educated in the Calhoun County School System. He graduated from Calhoun County High School in 1989. Aftergraduation, Derek went right into the workforce. He worked at Bob’s Candy Company until it closed in 2005. Derek began workingat Procter and Gamble in 2006 as a forklift driver until his health failed in May 2023. Derek was passionate about listening to and enjoying old-school music, He enjoyed making you laugh by impersonating people, comedians, and movie characters. He enjoyed cooking his favorite delicious finger-licking collard greens using the recipe passed down from his mother. When his mother could no longer cook dinner for the family on Sunday, Derek carried on the tradition of cooking dinner and ensuring the family gathered together on Sunday. He was the life of the party.
Derek had a beautiful smile and loved life. He had a close loving relationship with his siblings. His twin sister, Sherry had a special place in his heart. He loved his family, nieces and nephews. He was his Mothers keeper and enjoyed taking care of her.
On October 3rd and at 3:11 a.m., God saw that Derek was tired and had fulfilled his purpose. God allowed Derek to transitionpeacefully and quietly to his eternal home. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, James and Fannie Strawter, and his favorite Uncle, Clifford Strawter.
Derek’s cherished memories will forever remain with his mother, Jamie Love of Leary, Georgia, his sisters, Luvenia Johnson, Leary, Georgia, Dr. Katrena Robinson (Carlton) of Albany Georgia, Cassandra Strawter of Leary, Georgia, Sherry Duhaney of Leary,Georgia, Josephine Scott( Fred) of Leary Georgia, Shirley Strawter of Manhattan New York, his brothers Reginald Jones ((Stephanie) of Coco Beach Florida, Theotis Strawter (Tammie), Macthias Jones (Shlander) of Albany, Georgia, his Aunts, Eula Richardson of Leary Georgia, Mary Merritt of Laurelton, New York, his uncle Benny Strawter of Syracuse New York and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
